What is Fortress?
Fortress is the church plant mission in the Killeen/Harker Heights community through a partnership between the congregations of Grace Lutheran in Killeen and St. Paul Lutheran in The Grove, Texas. Shepherded by Pastor Gerry Harrow, Fortress seeks to provide a place of refuge in God's strength for people who are connected through fellowship, the study of Scriptural truths, encouragement in life, and eventually Christian worship.
June, 2017 Newsletter
To all those in Rome (Killeen, The Grove and Central Texas) who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1:7
What an amazing greeting that Paul had for the Romans and how important it is for you to hear it too! You see, because of your faithfulness and generosity Fortress is impacting the Killeen/ Harker Heights area for Jesus. Thank you for your continued support!
Many things have happened in the last month. We completed the logo and branding process and you will now see the logo used in all we do. We have also added a website, a mobile app, and changed our Facebook page to help people connect with Fortress. If you haven’t already checked these out, please go to our website at http://fortress.today. From there, you can access all of the social media platforms.
The launch leadership team continues to meet weekly and is reaching out to those who have expressed interest in Fortress. We are focusing on building relationships and are praying, if it’s God’s will, to be worshipping in the fall. We’ve joined the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce and had a booth at the Kiwanis Salsa Fest. Through these types of activities, we hope to connect into the community.
We continue to do the due diligence concerning the 6 acre piece of property in Killeen. We are praying for God’s wisdom and discernment as we gingerly take steps!
God continues to reinforce why we are here. I had the opportunity the other day to talk with a lady who isn’t currently attending church regularly, has a husband who is deployed, and is in desperate need of a community where she can experience God’s strength and comfort. When I told her about Fortress, she said, “It sounds like just what I’ve been looking for. Just tell me where and when and I’ll be there.” There are many more stories out there.
The need is great, and what a blessing it is to be in partnership with you! A passage that I shared with the leadership team captures it so well.
Luke 10:1-3 (ESV) After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
It’s more and more apparent that we’ve all been “appointed and sent” to this Central Texas area! What a comfort and source of strength it is to go two-by-two with all of you! Thank you again for your support and prayers!
Joy and peace,
